Your Startup Submission
+ Strava/Runna and Techstars
From the PitchClub Community
Happy Sunday! Last week, we asked “What should people be building”. People submitted a lot of great startup calls, both for general topics and specific startup ideas. Here were some of our favorite submissions:
In Public Goods/ Community
“A place for youth to thrive, post pandemic.”
“Cultural destinations that spark joy, equity, and entrepreneurship. (Haunted Texas Theme Park & USA History Preservation Project)”
“Local media companies”
Tech Backed Healthcare
“Tech instruction for seniors in simple but complete format, i.e. ai wrapper how to tutorials.”
“Telemedicine startup that uses WhatsApp to connect patients to doctors and healthcare providers”
“AI enhanced medtech for those suffering from cancer”
“Lab testing help for rural and tier 2, 3 ,4 cities patients”
Defense Tech
“Technology to detect and stop hypersonic missiles”
General Investing Advice (Maybe my favorite)
“Investors should stop chasing and wasting their time on the elusive AI Unicorn because it's just as the name implies - artificial! Stop being followers and lead! Seek out new, unique and both small business and consumer friendly investments!”
Thanks all for the submissions. We hope that you all are busy building and investing in great areas.
Sponsored Web Panel: From idea to exit: Lessons from SaaS founders who’ve done it
Why do some SaaS ideas take off while others stall? In this candid webinar, founders and experts from Podscan and Paddle share real stories and hard-earned lessons—from validating early traction to choosing between bootstrapping or VC, and scaling through smart tactics. It’s not a pitch—it’s founder therapy.
Techstars Increases Funding Terms
Techstars upped their investment terms by 100K. Techstars likely felt it had lost ground compared to accelerators like YC and Neo in the last decade, but the added capital makes the 20-year old accelerator feel like a newly attractive option, with a strong mentor network and broad recognition. It will be yet to be seen whether it can attract the same caliber of startups as YC that will go on to raise x-multiples in later rounds, but for past and future Techstars founders, this rising tide can only be good news. Some Techstars’ stats:
74% of Techstars companies raise capital within the first three years
$29.5B is the total lifetime raised by Techstars accelerator companies
$1M+ is the average first raise post-program
Strava x Runna
Strava acquired the popular training plan AI app, Runna, for an undisclosed amount. It is rumored to be above $100 million, an amazing outcome for an app that publicly raised ~$10 million. For now, both users will have to pay both subscriptions, (Strava charges $79.99, Runna costs $119.99 annually) but we could see either Runna become a perk of a premium Strava subscription, or it may be folded into the main Strava app.
